Let’s start at the beginning: the best way to protect your skin is to stay out of the sun. But who really does that on a beautiful, warm and sunny day? In Aruba, we usually don’t. We love the sun too much.
That’s why we always keep our SPF nearby. It should be the first thing that comes to mind when you’re going out in the sun. And then, at the end of the day, there’s after sun.
But what exactly is after sun? What’s fact and what’s fiction? We’ll take you on a quick journey to help you understand what after sun really does.
Can after sun reverse damage to my skin?
Unfortunately, after sun doesn’t reverse damage. When damage to your skin is done, it’s done. Going out in the sun always does some sort of damage to your skin. The sun dries your skin. And even when you do use SPF, you're never fully protected. We tend to use our sun protection inaccurately. We apply it too thin, or not often enough. So some sort of damage is inevitable if you spend a day in the sun.
The only real prevention is staying in. After that comes SPF. And after that, comes after sun. It’s not a miracle. But it is going to help a lot with skin recovery. It helps your skin stay hydrated and heal more quickly. And it even helps you keep your tan longer – but we’ll tell you more about that later.
After sun helps your skin recover, and the aloe plays a big part
When you say hydration, you say aloe vera. It’s the most hydrating plant for your skin. The gel contains about 99% water, combined with vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Because of the composition of aloe, it doesn't just put moisture on your skin, it penetrates deeper and holds the moisture there. And that’s exactly what your skin needs to recover after sunburn. That’s why we created our aloe based after sun, made with the finest aloe in the world.
By using after sun your tan stays longer
Besides healing, hydration and recovery, there’s another benefit to using after sun: It helps you keep your tan longer.
That might sound unbelievable, but it actually makes a lot of sense. A tan only lives in the topmost layer of your skin. If your skin is dry, it peels off and your tan disappears. When you keep your skin hydrated, you avoid peeling. It slows down your skin's natural shedding process. On top of that, a hydrated skin makes you look more glowy and emphasizes your tan.
